Province of Middlesex Mark Masons Visit Spanish Brothers

District Grand Lodge of Spain’s Mark Degree Annual General Meeting

1st February 2020

It was a cold early morning on the 31st of January when a number of brethren of Middlesex Province left their various home addresses and headed for the airport, one to Southend the others to Gatwick. A gathering of those brethren then ensued at Wetherspoons for a hearty breakfast before flying out to sunny Spain.

On arrival at Alicante airport, we all then met up again in the luggage lounge before seeking out our pre-ordered taxi for the six of us. Feeling confident the plans were all falling into place and all looking forward to the weekend ahead, we all strutted out of the airport to seek out that taxi. Can you imagine our amusement when we were led to this 38 seater bus which was about to trundle the six of us down to Benidorm?

The perfect vehicle for a ride down to Benidorm, a 38 seater for 6 British Masons.

Once arriving and checking into the Grand Bali Hotel, it was a case of meeting up with old friends in the bar for what turned out to be a real corker of an afternoon and evening. This is a trip some of us have done year on year, but it was a great thrill watching the Benidorm virgins soaking up the atmosphere of the party like gathering.

Needless to say, we all had a great time before retiring to a long-awaited good night’s sleep.

Up in the morning for breakfast and hundreds of very smart brethren strutting around the hotel in their morning suits. With breakfast over we headed over to the conferencing centre for the much anticipated main event, The District Grand Lodge of Spain’s AGM with dignitaries and delegates from all over the UK all huddling in their respective groups and tussling for prime positions to get the best seats.

The meeting started with the many incoming processions to finally the Assistant Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Stephen Davidson, the meeting was greatly appreciated by all the brethren present with was filled with much pomp and ceremony. After the meeting, followed a three-hour Spanish Festive Board which was fabulous in every way, the many courses of food, the wine, the banter all absolutely fantastic.

The evening then followed by a more relaxed dress code and lots more mingling with our respective counterparts from all around the UK. Lots of new friends made with lots of catching up with old. All in all a brilliant weekend away in the sunshine with excellent company, what could be better.
