Provincial Burns Night Meeting

Thursday 25th January 2024 – Duke of Connaught Mark Lodge, No. 199 – Harrow

Anyone in the vicinity of Northwick Circle on 25th January must have wondered what was going on in the Masonic Centre, when the sound of bagpipes came roaring out. This was the Burns Night meeting, which was hosted on behalf of Middlesex Province by Duke of Connaught Mark Lodge, and attended by around 65 brethren.

The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Edward R Garty, entered in procession, along with members of the Provincial Executive and other Provincial Officers. RW Bro Garty was resplendent in his kilt and full Scottish dress, and was proceeded by a piper, which created the right atmosphere for the occasion.

The Advancement ceremony was carried out in an impeccable manner, and the Advancee, Bro Dimitar Hubenov, was treated to a unique occasion. However, he was assured not to expect such high ranking distinguished visitors to all of his future ceremonies.

The Mark meeting was preceded by an Elevation ceremony, which was equally well conducted.

The Festive Board was quite spectacular, with a very Scottish Menu. Once everyone was settled, the Haggis was carried in by the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, accompanied by the piper playing the bagpipes. The piper then proceeded to address the Haggis in a typical Highland fashion, which included attacking it with his sword, which enabled all the contents to spill out.

This was a fabulous occasion, and if you have not been to a Burns Night dinner, I would recommend you to book for next year.
