On the 8th of July, members of the newly reponed George Parker Lodge of MMM No. 1316 (The Golfing Lodge), met at the Coombe Hill Golf Club, Kingston upon Thames for a fantastic Society Day.
The preliminary organisation of the day was carried out by Bro. John Hoare, who unfortunately was taken poorly two weeks before the meeting, needing three emergency stents fitted at St Georges Hospital, Tooting, with two more required in the weeks ahead.
John did manage to attend the luncheon having been driven and accompanied by his grandson Jack.
John was very warmly greeted with a huge round of applause and plenty of fuss.
A member of the club (Stewart Thomas) then took on the responsibility of organising the 48 players into four balls, for what was a brilliant day’s golf.
The members of the Coombe Park club made our visiting members very welcome, in a most sincere and endearing way.
The day started with bacon rolls, tea, and coffee in a most convivial environment.
With the teams drawn up and the handicaps sorted out we set off at timely intervals on what was a very well-manicured and interesting course. This was greatly appreciated by our membership.
On completion of the golf, we were all treated to a fabulous luncheon and a well-earned shandy, after which Stewart Thomas informed us of the various winners.
Robert Rough, who is not a Mark Master Mason YET !…. taking top honours, runner up was our very own P.G.M, R.W. Bro Edward R Garty.
Longest drive was one by Steve Bevis who again, is not yet a MMM, but will be as soon as can be arranged.
Nearest the pin was won by W. Bro. Peter Hyde with a real fluke shot off the 14th Tee.
All in all Brethren, a fantastic day out.
I can tell you that the money raised from donations, fines, and competition entrance fees raised £1,800.00, which will be going to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for children.
All who took place agreed this was a marvellous amount and the icing on the proverbial cake.
Arrangements are already being planned for a similar day next year.
Why not become a member of George Parker Lodge of MMM and join in the fun ?
